Here, turned to stone, is one of the strange creatures which inhabited the warm oceans of earth 300-400 million years ago Only the calcium rich shells have survived to become fossils. They have been carefully cut and polished to show each shells delicate internal structure. This Ammonite, whose name means "Ammons Stone" is named after Ammon, an Egyptian god with the head of a ram. It is said to symbolize fertility and life.
